Wrestling isn’t a sport of flashes or fast breaks.
It’s a sport of early mornings, sore muscles, precise technique, and a mental toughness that only comes from drilling the same move until you own it.
On the mats at Quincy High School, that dedication isn’t just visible — it’s contagious.
From long practices before school to late evenings perfecting takedowns and escapes, the Quincy Jacks and Lady Jacks have lived the grind all season. They’ve woken up sore. They’ve walked off the mat tired. They’ve stared down weight challenges and battled through them together — and it’s paid off.
This February, our hometown wrestlers are taking that hard work to the Tacoma Dome, where Washington’s best will compete for state titles at Mat Classic XXXVII — the WIAA/Gesa Credit Union Mat Classic XXXVII.
Six Lady Jacks Earn Their State Spots
Under the guidance of Coach Mark Kondo Sr., the Lady Jacks have wrestled with grit all season long. Competing in duals, tournaments, and tough league matches, they’ve shown that determination isn’t just something you talk about — it’s something you live every day.
This year, six Lady Jacks have earned their place at State — a huge accomplishment that reflects hours of training, drilling, and heart.
Congratulations to:
Emiko Kondo
Crystal Perez
Jourdan Ferguson
Kim Solano
Evelyn Silvas
Abigail Garcia
In past seasons, Quincy girls wrestling has built a legacy that stretches beyond the mat — with alumni like Kateri Rowell-Pine helping blaze the trail and elevate girls wrestling in the state.
Jacks Wrestling: Five to State, Four Alternates Ready
On the boys’ side, Jacks Head Coach Breck Webley has emphasized toughness, technique, and team unity all season — and that work has paid off. Wrestling in a competitive league like the Central Washington Athletic Conference has tested the Jacks week after week, and they’ve met it with resiliency.
Our five state qualifiers moving on to Tacoma are:
Lucas Martinez
Jace Reyes
Enrique Rebollo
Angel Farias
Alejandro Barajas
And our four alternates — whose role is crucial in keeping the whole team sharp — are:
Jody Gardner
Diego Diaz
Anthony Averill
Jayden Ortiz
Alternates don’t sit on the sidelines in spirit — they elevate the room every day, push starters in practice, and stay ready for their moment. That readiness is part of what makes a strong program and a strong community.
The Big Stage: Mat Classic XXXVII at the Tacoma Dome
This year’s WIAA/Gesa Credit Union Mat Classic XXXVII returns to the Tacoma Dome, bringing together the state’s top wrestlers across classifications. It’s where teamwork, preparation, and nerves meet in a spectacle of skill and heart.

More Than a Match: A Community Behind Every Takedown
In Quincy, wrestling isn’t just another sport — it’s a part of the fabric of the school year. From duals at East Valley and Selah to regular practices in the QHS gym, every moment builds toward this point.
These athletes have spent countless hours perfecting their craft. They’ve learned to embrace physical discomfort. They’ve endured narrow losses and celebrated hard–fought wins. And now, they’re taking all that to Tacoma — carrying not just their own dreams, but the pride of Quincy behind them.
Wrestling teaches something that sticks long after high school: how to fight through discomfort, how to stay disciplined when nobody’s watching, and how to own your effort.
And that’s something Quincy can always be proud of.
So when you see one of our Jacks or Lady Jacks around town this week, take a moment to say:
“Good luck at State — we’re proud of you.”
Because this isn’t just a tournament.
It’s a season’s worth of grit, growth, and heart — on full display under the Tacoma Dome lights.
Go wrestle with everything you’ve got. Quincy is already proud of You! 💪🔥
